Nocturna is a small app for planning movie nights with friends, on the web at nocturna.mov and on iPhone. It is run by Hector Zarco (Hector Leon Zarco Garcia), an independent developer in Valencia, Spain, who is responsible for your data. Questions go to hello@nocturna.mov.
The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we never sell it, we show no ads and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
What we collect
- Your email address, to sign you in with a magic link and to reach you about your account.
- Your profile: display name, username and the movie character you pick as your avatar.
- Your films: favourites, watched films and any notes on them, your watchlist and your top three.
- Your groups: the groups you create or join, invite links you make, films you suggest and their notes, the nights you plan (date, time and the place name you type), your votes and your RSVPs.
- Purchases on iPhone: whether you started the free trial or bought Nocturna Lifetime. Apple handles the payment; we never see or store card or payment details.
- Website analytics: pages viewed, the referring site, country, browser and device type, and page speed measurements, through Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. They use no cookies and do not follow you to other sites.
Our hosting providers keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses and request times) to run the service and keep it secure.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad tracking. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not read your contacts, photos or location.
How we use it
- To run Nocturna: show your group the films, nights, votes and RSVPs you add, and keep your lists.
- To send sign-in emails.
- To unlock and restore your purchase on iPhone.
- To keep the service secure and to find and fix problems.
- Operational alerts: when someone signs up or uses a key feature, a short note (display name, username, group name and film titles, never your email) is posted to a private Telegram channel that only the owner reads, so problems get noticed early.
The legal bases are the contract with you (running the service you signed up for) and our legitimate interest in keeping it secure and working.
Who can see what
- Everything in a group (its films, nights, votes, RSVPs and members) is visible only to the people in that group.
- Your profile and film lists are visible to people you share a group with.
- If you make your profile public, anyone with the link can see your display name, username, avatar, top three and film lists at nocturna.mov/yourname, and search engines may index that page. Make it private again in Settings at any time.
Who processes your data
We use a few providers to run Nocturna. Each processes data only to provide its service to us.
- Supabase: database, sign-in and sign-in emails.
- Vercel: hosting for nocturna.mov, Web Analytics and Speed Insights.
- TMDB: film data and images. Posters and backdrops load straight from TMDB's image servers as you view them, so TMDB sees your IP address. We never store the images.
- Apple: app distribution and in-app purchases.
- Telegram: the private operational alert channel described above.
Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where they do, they rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account we delete it and the personal data tied to it (profile, avatar, lists, suggestions, votes and RSVPs) within 30 days, except anything we must keep by law. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Deleting your account
In the Nocturna iPhone app, go to Settings and tap Delete account. You can also email hello@nocturna.mov from the address you sign in with.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and you can object to or restrict how we use it. Email hello@nocturna.mov. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to your data protection authority; in Spain that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.
Children
Nocturna is not meant for children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app when a change matters.
